Yes we believe we do. We are neither the cheapest nor most expensive as we have to remain competitive. Our whole aim is to provide you with top class materials and workmanship which will transform your home.
You say you could save me hundreds of pounds. How is this possible?
From time to time the specification given to me by a customer is more complicated than is necessary and a simpler specification would fulfil the customer’s requirements. After being in the decorating business for 30 years I have the expertise to know how to carry out a job efficiently and economically in order to help make savings for my clients.
Is the work you carry out for me guaranteed?
Yes we provide a typed, dated and signed 12 months guarantee against faulty workmanship or materials. If all the materials used are Dulux then we can provide you with a 24 month guarantee
Once you have started on my job will you stay here until the job is finished or will you go away to do other jobs?
When we start your job we will be there every day until the job is finished. We organize our work in a professional way and only take on jobs when we are confident that we will be able to give your home our full and undivided attention.
What if I require other trades whilst you are working at my property?
Because we have been in business for 30 years we have personal experience of other bona fide trades people and are confident in making recommendations.
Are the decorators trustworthy enough to leave in my house whilst I am at work?
Yes, all our decorators are vetted by us. They will lock the house up for you at the end of the day and even put security alarms back on for you if you wish.
Do I have to be here when the decorating is taking place?
Not necessarily. A lot of our customers are out at work all day and leave us with a key. Some are retired and are at home and some have the work carried out whilst they are away on holiday.
Do I have to move any furniture before the decorator arrives?
We ask you to move pictures, ornaments, curtains, small items of furniture, etc. and to empty moveable pieces of furniture like wardrobes, cupboards and bookcases. If you have difficulty with this then we would be willing to help. Larger pieces of furniture can be moved to the middle of the room by the decorator and he will cover them with a plastic dust sheet.
Do I have to supply dust sheets?
No, we will supply dust sheets for the carpets and plastic dust sheets to cover furniture.
Do I have to supply any of my own materials?
We usually supply all paint and preparatory materials but not wallpaper, although we can supply this if you wish. We normally use Dulux/ Glidden paints but if you request another brand such as Farrow & Ball, Fired Earth, Laura Ashley, Crown etc. we may ask you to supply this yourself.
Can you offer advice on paint colours and types of wallpaper?
Yes, using the knowledge we have built up over 30 years. We can also advise you where to go to look for wallpaper in your area.
Are the quotations free?
Yes, including quotations for insurance work, and you are under no obligation to purchase.
What time will the decorator arrive in the morning?

Will I need to pay any money before the work commences?
No, we don’t ask for any money before commencement of the job.
How do I pay for the work?
We will send you an invoice at the end of the job with a stamped addressed envelope so that you can send us a cheque. On larger jobs we may ask for a part payment during the course of the work.
What if I am unhappy with the work in progress?
We are confident that our decorators will fully meet your expectations and specifications. However, if you have any concerns at all please do not leave them until the end of the job. If possible you should discuss concerns with the decorator. However, if this is not possible or appropriate you should call me direct. My approach is to sort out any issues there and then so that full customer satisfaction is restored before the job is completed. Our aim is that you will be delighted with your newly decorated home.
What are the advantages to me of employing a decorator who belongs to the Painting & Decorating Association (PDA)?
M. L. Dixon has belonged to the Painting & Decorating Association (formerly the British Decorators Association) since 1987. The Association was formed in 1894 and is the largest association in Britain representing quality painters and decorators. The advantage to you of using a decorator who is a member of the PDA is that he will have been rigorously vetted with regards to his competence as a decorator, his trustworthiness and length of time in the trade. Members are also subject to random checks to ensure their high standards are maintained. Under the Code of Practice, members of the PDA will be fully insured, guarantee their work, train their staff, give written quotations and always recommend a method of treatment to give a good and lasting job. On the rare occasion that there is a dispute between you and the member decorator the PDA provides a Clients Advisory Service to resolve the dispute. Their web site address is
